Update

Next Sunday I will be driving to Frisco for the final walk through and
closing. It is hard to believe that this is my final full week in
Beaumont. I will have six final nights in Beaumont after I return from
closing, but those days are going to be so filled with the final
moving steps that I can hardly think about it. I have been working on
this move for so long it is difficult to realize that the time is
really here.

I talked to my former neighbor who lived across the street from me and
moved into a new house here in Beaumont last December. Their old house
was a two story house like mine, and they moved to a new one story
house. She said their electric bills are running lower than they did
in the old house. I thought that was good news. I was afraid the
larger surface area of a one story roof would offset any savings from
higher energy efficiency. I am glad I was wrong.

Tomorrow morning my realtor is coming over to discuss the final
details of selling my house. There was a story on Beaumont home sales
on the Channel 4 news last night. They said home prices in Beaumont
are increasing at a rate that puts Beaumont in one of the top ten
positions in the country. Hurricane Rita caused a shortage of rental
properties in Beaumont and a lot of former renters are purchasing
homes. There is federally subsidized mortgage money and assistance
with closing costs for people buying houses in this area. All of that
is contributing to a good real estate market in Beaumont. When the
money from my home sale is in the bank, I will be a very happy woman.

I am keeping my eye on the temperature in Frisco and Beaumont. I am
very worried about how I will handle the heat when my furniture is
being loaded and unloaded. I am not so young any more and the heat can
really deliver a wallop. My refrigerator will still be plugged in here
in Beaumont. I will have it stocked with lots of water. Frisco is
going to be a bigger problem. The movers and I will have to drink warm
water.
