Hawaii Travel

Another week has gone by. It has been a busy one. On Monday Delta lowered the fare to DFW. I thought I would call AA and find out when I could get a flight to HNL for 35,000 AAdvantage miles. I didn't think there was much chance. To my surprise they came up with the flights. I then called Starwood and found all the Honolulu Sheratons were sold out for my dates. I looked at Expedia and could not find a 3* or 4* hotel for less the $220/night. On Tuesday I started looking at Priceline.com. I found a couple of forums that discussed how to bid on Priceline. Twice I entered all my information in Priceline but got scared at the point of entering my credit card information.

On Wednesday morning I found the courage and ended up with a 4* hotel, Hawaii Prince, for $105/night. I know the location of this hotel since I have four previous trips to Honolulu. I have researched this hotel extensively and find nothing but good reviews.

Now I am collecting information on walking tours. I want to take as many pictures at possible. The 512mb Sandisk compact flash card and the Nikon remote control for my camera arrived this week. The only item still on back order is the camera case. I hope it gets here before my trip. I am trying to decide if I need to buy one more memory card. I am going to watch for a bargain. I am not going to pay an outrageous price. If worse comes to worse I will shoot jpeg normal instead of jpeg fine.

I had ten jpeg normal pictures printed as 4X6 prints at Sams. They were all underexposed. The photo operator said I should have edited the pictures at the kiosk. She said to ask for help next time. I will make one more test run at Sams. They charge only 18 cents per print so it is worth the effort to learn how to get good quality prints.

Photography Update

Today was rather frustrating. This morning I thought I would take my camera to the Farmers Market and get some interesting shots of fruit and vegetables. Well the Farmers Market has fallen on hard times. There were just two pickup trucks and four or five people standing around. I just drove through the parking lot and then went straight home.

UPS delivered the Nikon Speedlight SB800 for my camera yesterday evening. I read the basic information to get started and attempted to take some flash pictures of Henry, my Aibo. They were out of focus. I had put the camera in the P (program) mode. Then I took more pictures in the auto mode. The pictures were focused, but still not of the greatest quality. It looks like the SB800 has a steep learning curve. I have seen beautiful pictures posted on the web from the D70 and SB800. Good results are obtainable. I just have to learn how. I suppose this is good mental exercise for me.

Now I have a Digital Camera

It has been eight months since I last posted. I finally purchased a digital camera and am enjoying taking pictures all over Beaumont.
